Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy, referred to as IMRT,Principle and the same as traditional radiation therapy is an extension of three-dimensional treatment and progress, the principle is the combination of computed tomography images, clear tumor location and adjacent normal cells location, in a complex computer program, such as linear accelerator systems and auxiliary equipment may be different and adjustable intensity of the radiation beam, according to some of the parameters given by a doctor and each treatment dose of the desired region, selective irradiation of tumor adjacent lymph nodes and the surrounding region on normal tissues. Therefore, the intensity-modulated radiation therapy technology, not only enables a higher concentration of radiation dose in the tumor, thereby enhancing tumor cure rate, and reduce or exempt from the normal cells around the tumor by radiation exposure, they are upgrading the more after cancer patients quality of life. But its disadvantage is that the direction of a restricted beam, if patients have to move or change the location of breathing, it will affect the correct treatment position; and also because a single treatment time is short, so still need multiple exposures to carry out a few weeks .
